Couples who laugh together, last together.

Caitlin + Zack not only booked me for an engagement session - but also for their wedding at The Boulder Dushanbe TeaHouse next June. This was the perfect way to get to know them, their relationship and what makes their story special. After a few weeks of discussing different locations, dates, and everything else, we settled on the colorful Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder, and it was full of murals + art + everything I love about a small town. We met at OZO Coffee Company and Caitlin started off with a hug - and I knew we were going to get along great! (I’m a hugger.) We chatted for a bit about the session - and Caitlin let me know they were not very good at PDA, but they would try as best they could.
I was so thankful that they told me this detail about them because this engagement session is about them and their relationship. If they don’t want to kiss or be overly affectionate because that is not their normal - then I don’t want to photograph that. I want to photograph Caitlin + Zack exactly how they are together, for these are their moments and this is their story.
One thing I can tell you about Caitlyn + Zack is that they love to laugh together. I have no idea what they were talking about, but it was all funny! The best part was when they said - “Okay, let’s try a kiss.” We ended up with the black and white below in the doorway - true silliness, genuine laughter, pure joy - exactly who they are together.
This gem below was right across from the rainbow bricks and I loved all of the texture. When I focused on Caitlin’s ring, they told me it was an antique that they had bought at a jewelry store in Boulder. Such a unique engagement ring with a history of its own - something old, but something new.
This town and their relationship are just too cute!!!!
Something they do together is hang out in a cafe or outside talking about anything and everything over coffee.
Boulder is full of small town particulars and one of the most iconic landmarks is the Boulder Theatre.
One of my favorite moments from our engagement shoot is below. I told them to tickle each other and this is what happened. They both just busted out laughing saying “um, okay - how to we do this, something like this?” Yes, Caitlin + Zack, this is perfect!
Most people might not think a restaurant is where a couple should have their photos taken, but this was the first place they had dinner together. This was where it all began! How sweet is that?
Caitlin + Zack started out as friends, and you can see that friendship still when they look at eachother. I was happy for the cold that began settling in also because it gave them the perfect excuse to snuggle. And now I would like them to become famous singers and use this on their album cover!
When they begin their wedding day next year, we will do the “getting ready” photos at the famous Boulderado Hotel, so it made sense to go there to try to get some shots. I love this moment. Caitlin said, “why don’t I kiss you on the forehead.” Tiptoes and all, so sweet.
For sunset, they wanted to hit up Chautauqua Park with their pups - George and Myla - and the beautiful Flatirons. You can’t tell from these photos, but it was FREEZING! The dogs were so excited to see their parents and play outside which was so fun to capture. I am looking forward to their wedding in June and already have so many amazing ideas.
I cannot wait to see the wedding rings they pick out!
